Insider Tip
Visit Geku (outer shrine) first, then Naiku — this is the traditional order. Akafuku mochi on Oharai-machi is a must-try.
JEMS Tip
We plan the proper pilgrimage order (Geku outer shrine first, then Naiku inner shrine) and book Ise lobster lunch.
About
Ise Jingu is the most sacred shrine in Shinto, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The inner shrine (Naiku) is rebuilt every 20 years in an ancient tradition. The surrounding forest and Oharai-machi shopping street add to the experience.
Crowd Avoidance
Visit early morning at opening time or late afternoon to avoid tour groups. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends.
Getting There
Iseshi Station (Kintetsu/JR from Nagoya, 1.5 hrs) then bus to Naiku (15 min).
