Insider Tip

Open mid-April to mid-November only. The first bus of the day gives you the valley almost to yourself. Taisho Pond at dawn with the mountain reflections is one of Japan's most beautiful scenes.

JEMS Tip

We plan the optimal bus timing to arrive before the crowds, map hiking routes matched to your fitness level, and can arrange mountain lodge stays for multi-day treks.

About

Kamikochi is a remote alpine valley in the Northern Japanese Alps, accessible only by bus. The Azusa River runs crystal-clear through the valley, with the iconic Kappa Bridge offering views of the 3,000m peaks. Hiking trails range from easy riverside walks to challenging mountain ascents.

Crowd Avoidance

Visit on weekdays and arrive early for the best experience with fewer crowds. Avoid national holidays and peak tourist seasons.
