Insider Tip

While the museum recreates a retro 1950s street, ramen ordering is entirely modern via vending machines outside each shop. Always check the machine for the 'mini ramen' option (ミニラーメン) if you plan to sample multiple regional varieties, which is highly recommended. Remember the crucial rule: if you sit down at a ramen restaurant, adult visitors (junior high school age and older) are expected to order at least one bowl of ramen, even if it's a mini size.

JEMS Tip

JEMS can pre-book the popular Ramen Making Experience class, ensuring your spot for a hands-on culinary journey. We also provide a curated guide to the best regional ramen shops within the museum, highlighting options like the 'Bib Gourmand' Rishiri Ramen Miraku and advising on strategic ordering of 'mini ramen' portions to maximize your tasting experience without over-ordering. For larger groups or specific dietary needs, JEMS can liaise with the museum regarding seating arrangements or vegetarian selections.

About

The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum is the world's first ramen-themed amusement park, founded in 1994. It features a meticulously recreated street-scape of 1958 Tokyo, the year instant ramen was invented, showcasing seven renowned ramen shops offering diverse regional flavors. Visitors can also explore an exhibition on ramen history and culture on the first floor, and participate in a ramen-making experience class (charge and reservations required).

Crowd Avoidance

To avoid peak crowds, plan your visit for a weekday, ideally right at opening at 11:00 AM, or during the late afternoon from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Weekends and national holidays are significantly busier, especially during lunch and early dinner hours (12:00 PM - 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM). Aim to finish your ramen orders by 8:30 PM, as shops close ordering 30 minutes before the museum's 9:00 PM closing time.

Getting There

From Tokyo Station, take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Shin-Yokohama Station (approx. 18 minutes). From Shibuya, take the Tokyu Toyoko Line to Kikuna, then transfer to the JR Yokohama Line for Shin-Yokohama (approx. 30 minutes). The museum is a straightforward 5-10 minute walk from the station.
