Insider Tip

Beyond the main observation deck, be sure to visit the "Rose Symphony Garden" when roses are in bloom to experience curated music complementing the visual and aromatic beauty. For an exclusive seasonal treat, plan your visit in summer to enjoy the "Kobe Terrace" bar at View Plaza, offering cocktails and light bites with panoramic night views—a special experience not available year-round.

JEMS Tip

For optimal flow, clients can take the ropeway up, explore the gardens and observation deck, then choose to descend via ropeway or enjoy a moderate hike down past the Nunobiki Waterfall to Shin-Kobe Station. This offers a blend of stunning aerial views and a refreshing walk without committing to a full uphill climb. As Shin-Kobe is a Shinkansen hub, this makes a seamless half-day excursion even for travelers with tight schedules or those making a transfer.

About

The Kobe Nunobiki Ropeway offers a comfortable 10-minute "walk-in-the-sky" ascent, providing stunning aerial views of Kobe, Nunobiki Waterfall, and the Rokko mountain chain. It leads directly to the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, one of Japan's largest, boasting hundreds of herb species, seasonal flowers, and a glasshouse allowing year-round cultivation of exotic fruits. The observation deck at the top station is renowned for its spectacular city views, especially at night.

Crowd Avoidance

To avoid the busiest times, particularly for the popular night views, aim for a weekday visit, ideally arriving just before the last daytime ropeway ascent around 16:00-16:30. This allows you to experience the transition from daylight to twilight and enjoy the evening ambiance before the main crowds gather after sunset. Weekends and national holidays, especially evenings, will be significantly more crowded.

Getting There

From Shin-Kobe Station, exit on the first floor to the south to reach the tunnel leading north towards the forested mountain and the ropeway's lower station, a mere 5-minute walk. For those arriving via Shinkansen, Shin-Kobe is a direct stop, making this a highly accessible activity.
