Insider Tip
The freshly pounded mochi has a completely different texture from store-bought — soft, warm, and incredibly stretchy. Best paired with fresh matcha.
JEMS Tip
We book small-group workshops with English-speaking instructors in traditional settings, not the large tourist operations.
About
Experience traditional mochi-making (mochitsuki) in Nara, where you pound steamed glutinous rice with a large wooden mallet into soft, stretchy mochi. You then shape and fill the mochi with sweet red bean paste, kinako, or seasonal flavors.
