Insider Tip

While the main shows like the Ninja and Samurai Sword Fighting performances are popular, inquire about smaller, impromptu street vendor shows or the 'Jidaigeki Show,' which offers a behind-the-scenes look at period drama filming. These often provide a more intimate and authentic glimpse into the park's function as a studio. For the best photo opportunities, consider renting a samurai costume (¥5,000-¥12,000), which often includes professional photos taken on the film sets. Alternatively, for unique shots in period costumes, visit lesser-known corners of the Edo town sets away from the main thoroughfares, or ask park attendants for recommended scenic spots. Kids also love the ninja training course.

JEMS Tip

To optimize your visit, JEMS recommends purchasing tickets online in advance to bypass potential queues, especially on weekends and during peak season. Our logistics team can pre-book specific cultural experiences like tea ceremonies, premium costume experiences, or costume rental sessions to ensure availability and allocate dedicated time slots for you. We can also time your visit for the live action shows. For seamless arrival, we can arrange a private transfer directly to the park entrance, bypassing local bus transfers or walks from less direct train stations, ensuring a comfortable and time-efficient start to your day.

About

Toei Kyoto Studio Park, also known as Uzumasa Eigamura, is a unique blend of a working film set and a historical theme park. Here, actual historical movies and TV dramas, including samurai dramas, are occasionally filmed. Visitors can explore full-scale traditional streets, such as Edo-era street sets, a replica of Nihonbashi Bridge, and a former Yoshiwara red light district. The park features various attractions like ninja escape rooms, haunted houses, and cultural workshops. Visitors can also dress in period costumes, watch live sword fights and ninja shows, and enjoy other live performances by actors in period costumes, all bringing feudal Japan to life.

Crowd Avoidance

To minimize crowds, aim to visit on a weekday, specifically Tuesday through Thursday, and arrive promptly at the 10:00 AM opening time for the best experience and fewer people. Avoid weekends, Japanese public holidays, school vacation periods, autumn foliage, and cherry blossom seasons, as these are the most crowded periods. A rainy day can offer a significantly quieter experience, which could be an excellent strategy for clients seeking a more tranquil exploration of the Edo town sets, particularly before the peak crowds gather for the main shows.

Getting There

From JR Kyoto Station, take the JR Sanin Line (also known as Sagano Line) four stops to Hanazono Station (approx. 10 minutes, ¥200). Alternatively, the park can be reached by Kyoto City Bus 75 or Kyoto Bus 73, 76, or 83 from Kyoto Station in about 30 minutes.
